We live in adobe house out in the middle of nowhere. Both of these factors combined to give us almost non-existent cell coverage. Lately the cell coverage seemed to be getting even worse. Calls we had been able to make if we stood out in the middle of the yard (and away from any adobe) were also starting to drop. Verizon offered us this product for 1/2 the price (their list price being about $200 more than one I've subsequently seen on Amazon).
In any case, the change in service around our house is absolutely amazing. I have not dropped on call within the range of the extender. Our house is about 8,000 square feet and two stories, surrounded by an adobe courtyard and wall. The extender is placed in a downstairs room near a window. We went from getting a maximum of one bar in the house to 3 or 4 bars. When you make a call inside the range of the extender the sound is just as good (if not better) than the call quality outside of the range.
Here is the only odd thing about the extender that I have found. If you are on a call and walk outside of the range of the device it seems to make the call drop. For example, I walked over into the field next door and the bars disappear and the call is dropped. When I get into the field I can call the same number again and have 1 or 2 bars outside of the range of the extender. It's like the device will expand the strength of the service within its range but doesn't seamlessly allow you pass out of its range into a "non-extended" area. That is a clunky explanation, but it is difficult to describe the device when you're a technologically impaired as I am.
I think this device is nothing short of miraculous. It turned our phone service (a locked-in two-year contract) from a useless monthly bill into a useful communication tool. I highly recommend trying this extender if you are in a situation where something interferes with your cell coverage.
